Like many things, I had hoped to do more, but I have made a handful of oral history recordings.

Doreen recalls an aircaraft crash in Capel St. Mary during WW2

a photograph of Doreen Ablitt

From a quick bit of internet searching, it appears the aircraft, a B24 Liberator named "Miss Liberty", piloted by Adam Kubinciak, crashed on 25th Feb 1945.

Doreen Ablitt was born in a cottage on the Street in Capel and lived there all her life. She became a primary school teacher and taught at, among other schools, the school in Capel.

My mother recalls her wartime memories as a young child in Capel St Mary

Bernard, Ann and Hugh Fenner

My grandfather, Hugh, and grandmother, Elsie, moved to Capel St Mary when my mother was very young, taking over the shop and Post Office shown in the photograph. The attached cottage was the family home during World War Two.

Later, my grandfather, because of my grandmother's ill health, had a bungalow built to house themselves and the post office, and the shop was taken on by someone else. The original shop building with an attached cottage was demolished when the road was widened. The bungalow remains but is now completely residential.
